EPS 100 – Experience

June 17th, 2008

This year in EPS 100 we got to go out once a week and spend half a day in the classroom. This was such a great experience and so much fun. I was lucky and I was involved a lot in my classroom. I was in a grade 2/3 split class. I got to read stories to them, teach them math, read with them, and work one on one with reading. It was so much fun! It wasn’t a lot of time in th classroom, but it sure gave me a taste of what to expect. The kids were great, and really enjoyed my company.

Who got gifts from their teachers??? Everyone has, so of course I went out and bought them some cool pencils and bookmarks. The last day when I gave them their gifts, they all at once came to give me a hug. I was lucky I didn’t tumble over. Little things like getting hugs from students and hearing about their weekends stories is what I’m really looking forward to as becoming a teacher. I can’t get enough of the hugs and stories. It makes my day that much more special and happier.

I love sharing my experiences with students and in the classroom!

Throughout my grade 12 year. I also got the chance to work in the Kindergarten classroom with my Mom and I also got to work with our special needs student, Tyson. After working with Tyson, it opened up my worldview. Special needs students have the same right to learn as other students. Tyson is such a happy boy and he has come so far along. He is a very big inspiration to me that proves anyone can learn when they put their mind to it.

Lucky with Education

June 17th, 2008

As I was looking at others blogs today. I came across one that reminded me of my trip to the Dominican. My mom and I went. My mom is a teacher and I am becoming one so we decided to stop by a school house. It was a very sad thing to see. There are up to 5 different grades in one small room. One teacher, who teaches all different grades and ages. They are lucky if they get books and uniforms. We were at more of a high class school where the students did get uniforms, a couple textbooks, and school supplies (books, pencils, etc.). The children were so happy to go to school. They thought it was the best thing ever to be able to go to school because not ever got that chance. My mom and I took the children gifts like pencils, little stuffed animals, hair clips for the girls, and some balls. Seeing the smile on the children’s faces just broke my heart. It makes a person realize how lucky we are to have such a great education and the opportunity to have technology in schools.

Where we are happy to have technology, poorer countries are happy to have textbooks and pencils. Technology is a great thing to have in schools, but we don’t need it to survive. I hope that I get the chance to go to the Dominican again but this time to internet or just go and teach for the experience. Just seeing the children smile, from the gifts we gave them and just by coming to visit, gave me such a great feeling and made me realize why I truly want to become a teacher.

ps. I will be adding pics of me and the children, I just need to get ahold of some!

My Puppy!

BearBear

This is my puppy Bear! I got him for Christmas and he’s what keeps me going.  Right now I’m living alone in the big city and its nice to have someone to keep me entertained. He’s a lot of work but its totally worth it. Everyone needs something special in their lives whether it be an animal or another friend. Kids need friends throughout their life; animals, people, make believe, stuffed animals. Its important as teachers to be there to be friends with their students, but to make sure they are professional at the same time.

Hello

My name is Chelsea Brule. I come from a small town called Whitewood. I went to Whitewood School. It is a K-12 school. I have one sister, Danielle. She is in high school still. My mom, Kim, works as the Kindergarten teacher at Whitewood School, and my dad Bernard, works at the Mosaic Potash Mine in Esterhazy. I am in the Elementary Education program and very excited to become a teacher. I enjoy all types of sports, hanging out with my friends, and staying at the lake. We have a cabin at the lake near home, Round Lake. I have had a bit of experience with computers throughout my years at Whitewood School. I also am on the computer a bit checking e-mail, facebook, and just searching the web. I’m not to familiar with computers in any other ways. I like to think I know what I am doing on the computer though. I’ve very interested in learning many things in ECMP 355. I think that having computers and other technologies are a great idea for K-12 students. It seems that everyone is using computers and technology today. Children enjoy being on the computer, so if you bring it into the classroom then I think that students will want to learn more about computers and with computers. However, some schools may not be able to afford computers, therefore they won’t get to have the use of computers in the classroom, but they can improvise and learn about computers and use different technologies if they are available. Students can learn a lot from computers as well. There is a lot of information on the web that students can use for research purposes and to write papers. Students can also learn how to use word and power point for class projects. I expect to learn a lot more about computers. I’ve already learned about blogs and how they work. I would like to learn more on how to bring computers into the classroom and for myself how to use the computer more. I am wanting my instructor to be able to help me out with whatever questions I have, and to always be available. I hope to gain a lot of great information about how to use the computer in the classrooms, with assignments, projects, power point, etc. I really think that having computers in the classroom is a great idea and I hope to learn as much as I can from ECMP355 so that I can bring computers into the classroom for my students to enjoy and learn with.
